The Cursed Child sees protests over trans rights

While terves go around claiming trans people are a threat to kids, a known TERF stood by as a man threatened trans protesters with a knife and encouraged him outside a performance of The Cursed Child.

On Friday 29 August, young activists from Trans Kids Deserve Better protested outside the Palace Theatre where the play version of Queen Terf JK Rowling’s The Cursed Child is currently playing.

They gave speeches on the ground after attempting to scale the building but being unable to climb the awning. They implored people to stop funding JK Rowling, who has explicitly stated that she will use her money to fund campaigns that will harm trans people.

TKDB said they took this action because

for the last five years, the Harry Potter author has used her fame to spread anti-trans vitriol, both online and through her financial power.

JK Rowling: directly funding hate with your nostalgia purchases

In 2025, Rowling donated £70,000 to For Women Scotland, the organisation that challenged the Scottish government’s gender guidance, which ultimately led to the Supreme Court deciding that trans women would not be considered as women. In June of 2025 she set up the JK Rowling Women’s Fund which provides funding exclusively from her own wealth to cis women who are seeking legal cases against trans women. So every time you buy anything Harry Potter related you are funding the persecution of trans women.

One activist said in their speech:

JK Rowling’s comments and financial backing have fostered an environment that is dangerous for both cis and trans women. The day society stops funding Harry Potter is the day we stop funding threats towards women of all kinds.

Enter protector of women, Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, at The Cursed Child

However, they had to end the protest at The Cursed Child early after they were threatened with stabbing by a member of the public, the man in question was defending notorious TERF and leader of the Party for Women, Posie Parker, aka Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull.

Keen-Minshull is seen in a video which she posted on her own social media (which we will not share here as she doesn’t deserve the clicks), harassing teen activists and their legal observers from Trans Legal Clinic. She shows herself getting up in the faces of trans activists and declaring, “my name’s Posie Parker”, which is weird because it’s not her name. Yet when trans people want to change their names to fit their identity, she has a problem with it. It was also clearly an intimidation technique which did not work.

Being a typical Karen, when protesters attempt to stop her filming by putting flyers and a trans flag in between her and the kids she starts shouting “DON’T TOUCH ME!”, which nobody was of course. It’s pointed out to her that she’s harassing children by an adult legal observer and she declares “I don’t care” and instead films them, insinuating that trans adults are making trans kids protest and do their dirty work. She’s instead (probably purposefully) fundamentally misunderstanding the role of a legal observer at a protest, but using it to fuel hatred of trans people.

She’s also seen, again in her own video that she chose to post, getting up in the legal observers faces. When she’s told to take her hands off of the legal observers she swats at one of them, who of course says “ow!” She then accuses them of lying by saying “don’t say ow!”

Protecting women and kids, except ones she disagrees with

It’s at this point she claimed “now these twats wont let me leave”, which again is a lie because she wasn’t surrounded, she was attempting to get close to the protesting kids again. It’s then that a member of the public comes to her defence and threatens the kids shouting “I will fuck you all up” before threatening them with a knife. Keen-Minshull does nothing to stop these threats. The man was later arrested, but of course Keen-Minshull didn’t film that part. Keen-Minshull later said on her Twitter, where she posted the video

I wouldn’t normally intervene as I prefer to Let Women Speak but they were blocking the pavement.

This whole statement is untrue, as TKDB can be seen in photos and Keen-Minshull’s own video stood outside The Cursed Child theatre but not on the main walkway. She has also intervened many times before and attempted to silence women who speak up for trans women.

She continued:

Make no mistake they are the red army, they would turn their parents in for wrong speak. We should all be very afraid at what’s happened to so many of our youth.

Which is ironic given she saw a man literally threaten those children protesting and did nothing.

Stop funding transphobia

TKDB said on Instagram:

The message of this action, furthered by the horrifying actions of the far right counter-protesters, show one thing clearly: now is the time. STOP FUNDING TRANSPHOBIA!

Rowling has made it clear that she will use her own wealth to fund hateful campaigns to erase trans women. This is why it’s vital that you stop spending money on anything to do with Harry Potter. Trust me, I used to have a Harry Potter tattoo and 10 years ago I’d proudly tell everyone I was Ravenclaw – but trans lives are more important than a kids’ book series.

If you care about trans people at all, it’s more important than ever that you stop buying anything Harry Potter/The Cursed Child related and encourage others in your life to do the same. You can’t “separate the art from the artist” when the “artist” is directly using money they earned from the “art” to endanger the lives of others.
